Why Words Matter

“No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world,” said Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society

At Arize, we are in the business of words. Everything we do comes back to words – how they are written, spoken and understood. Words are the way in which we connect to other people and the world around us, and especially in the current trying global times, they really, truly matter.

Even small details in the way a sentence is written, or what punctuation is used, can transform the meaning of what is being communicated. We take into account every comma and dash used in our client communications – whether we’re writing a media release, a speech or even a social media caption – to ensure that what we are getting across is precise, succinct and unable to be misinterpreted.

Framing matters, too: we all know the classic example of looking at a glass as half-full or half-empty. Within the advertising and communication industries, perspectives can be cleverly shifted by the words used – while many brands and organisations will use this to their advantage, we believe that there are ways to encourage action while still keeping honesty and integrity top of mind.

We write with empathy and inclusion as priorities, even when speaking to a particular audience. We write so whoever is reading or hearing our words will feel like a part of something. With so many words in the English language at our fingertips, we have to make the conscious choice to choose words that will empower and inspire.

What words articulate who you are and what you stand for?
